The beautiful transition of fall is here. The cool crisp air. Pumpkins. Fall decorations and my kids favorite – apple cider! This might also be my favorite season because in the Ayurvedic diet, my body type thrives into this cozy season.
Being a mom is a full time job though! Fall also bring germs. Coughs. Wet and dirty hands. Sick and stuffy noses. No sleep. Less sleep equals lower immunity. So I need to buckle down and boost my family’s immune defenses naturally.
So, let’s chat briefly about gearing up. Implement these simple fall changes into your home and schedule and you might just escape a cold or too!
Every mama needs serious brain power. Be sure to nourish your brain FIRST thing in the morning! I like to bulletproof my coffee and add healthy fats (Kerrigold Butter – grass fed) and add 2 drops of immune boosting On Guard Blend by doTERRA.
Did you know that school can stress the brains of our younger ones? They are constantly presented new information and try to assimilate that into their small growing brains. It needs support! I have given all of my kids a healthy omega supplement since they were little because I truly believe in the power of healthy fats!
Essential fatty acids have been shown to support healthy brain functions. While Omega-6 fatty acids are important, we have a diet rich in these and do not need any help consuming these. The optimal consumption ratio is 1:1 so we as adults MUST supplement and it is even more important for our kids.
This transition into fall can sometimes feel overwhelming. Promoting a relaxing environment and aroma in your home through diffusing or making your own DIY room spray will keep everyone balanced. Some of my favorite oils to diffuse are lavender, petigrain, cedarwood, balance and serenity.
Maintaining a Healthy Gut
Recent studies show gut microbes shape the architecture of sleep and stress reactivity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. This means that the type of bacteria we have in our gastrointestinal tract changes how we sleep, how we react to stress, and how healthy our hormonal system is.
They influence memory, mood, and cognition, and are clinically and therapeutically relevant to a range of disorders. We need to eat to nourish these microbes, but we all know it is not that easy. I turn to probiotics for my kids and me daily.
I know we have heard this over 100 times, but several studies have shown that lack of sleep leads to worsening memory. To help calm our brains down from the activities of the day, my family turns to doTERRA oils. We like to diffuse and apply lavender, balance and citrus bliss.
Try applying these diluted to the big toe. In Eastern Medicine, the pineal gland is connected, can help prepare for a restful night’s sleep. There is nothing better as a parent than to take a few moments at the end of the day to sit on the edge of the bed rubbing oils into your children’s feet and talking about their day. This not only promotes sleep, but promotes good relations in your home.
Supporting Healthy Immune System
Immunity becomes a little more important when our kids hit the classrooms. I find that the bugs my kids have brought home are relentless! In my experience, when we implement daily (yes, I forget often too) oils like clove, wild orange and cinnamon my family will not get sick as often and if they do, it quickly passes.
Taking oils internally is easy with the On Guard Beadlets. I have found that the more ways I can use essential oils in home (toxic free & budget friendly) I can get all of the benefits multiple times a day and save time.
The On Guard foaming hand wash is fun for my kids to do themselves and it is effective! Another one you can equip kids with at school is the On Guard Sanitizing Hand Mist. More effective at killing microbes than melaleuca.
Invest in a diffuser. They are a game changer. Here is a simple recipe you can make in a spray bottle and enjoy the aromatic effects of oils too!
Orange Spice Diffusing Recipe
