Today, I am going to highlight all of the benefits of an oil we use in our home, Vetiver. This oils reminds me of maple syrup mostly because of its thickness. The roots of the vetiver plant are unique in their ability to grow downward, creating a thick tangle of roots in the ground. The scent is a woodsy one and it is composed of multiple sesquiterpenes, making Vetiver our go to oil when we need a grounding effect on our emotions.
I have three kids, and I am always looking for ways to naturally calm the emotions in my home.
So, let’s look at how we use this oil in our home. My hope is that you can take these tips and start to implement them into you own home too!
My Top 5 Uses for Vetiver
1.) This is my “anxious oil”. When experiencing anxious, unnerved, or stressed feelings, I use Vetiver oil aromatically or topically. Vetiver essential oil is rich in sesquiterpenes, which contain grounding properties. When used on the skin or inhaled, Vetiver essential oil can help provide a calming and grounding effect on emotions.
2.) Do you want a natural boost? You can aid your immune system by taking Vetiver essential oil internally. Vetiver oil contains immune-supporting properties and is a great way to fortify your immune system. For healthy immune support, place a couple of drops of Vetiver essential oil into a dōTERRA veggies cap and take it internally.
3.) Give your body a little TLC with a Vetiver essential oil bath. For best results, fill the bath tub with warm water and add a couple of drops of Vetiver essential oil the water. These simple steps will provide you with an ideal bath that is perfect for deep relaxation. The aromatic benefits of Vetiver oil will also aid in creating a soothing and calming atmosphere.
4.) Sleep is extremely important for the health of both the mind and body. When individuals do not receive adequate hours of sleep or have too many sleepless nights, body functions begin to slow down. To help promote a restful night’s sleep, rub Vetiver oil on the bottom of your feet. Vetiver oil is a great essential oil for sleep and relaxation and can help give your body the sleep it needs.
*Bonus tip! Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to your palm and then add 1 drop vetiver, 1 drop of frankincense and 1 drop of lavender. Mix and rub onto the bottoms of your feet, chest and spine. Then, inhale deeply. You can also do this combination in a veggie cap!
5.) School can be taxing and sometimes stressful for children. After a difficult day at school, help your child relax by applying Vetiver oil to your child’s neck and feet. This will help promote calm and grounded feelings.
My favorite way to use this oil on my kids when we homeschool is to apply a blend called “Thinker”. This is specifically designed for children and has other oils that promote relaxation, focus and prevent mental distraction. We simply apply it up and down the back of the next a few times, rub in, and inhale a few deep breaths.
